Same vibe, style of music and calibre, their sound is eclectic, energetic and engaging!

They have a new lead vocalist, Lee Morunga, who has an incredible voice! Here’s a little about Lee:
Lee Morunga originates from Whangarei, New Zealand. Started out as a backing vocalist in the 1990s and early 2000s for various artists such as Hinewehi Mohi, Teremoana Rapley, Reo Dunn. In 1999 Lee studied at Pounamu Maori Performing Arts, she then travelled throughout Europe and Asia as a Maori Performer.

Lee then went on to study at MAINZ, Auckland in 2002 before landing a role with Disney’s The Lion King, which then saw her performing around the world from Melbourne – Australia, Shanghai – China, Hamburg – Germany and then returning for three years with the Australian tour.

After 10 years with The Lion King, Lee decided to change directions and move on to the next chapter of her life. Soon after the announcement of leaving The Lion King, Lee was invited to join an all-female collaboration of New Zealanders in a show called, Soul Sisters of Matariki which featured Betty Anne Monga from Ardijah, Annie Crummer, Ria Hall, Whirimako Black, Majic Paora Raninikura and Waitai Henare. The show toured throughout NZ and Australia and recently came to an end early August 2016.

In recent weeks, Lee answered an ad online; calling out for a Professional Vocalist to lead the Milford Street Shakers; and here we are today. Lee joins the band with a world of experience and is uber ecstatic to front our ensemble.

Lee says, “This opportunity allows her to grow as a soul singer and build a much stronger foundation and freedom”.Hailing from Perth Australia, The Milford Street Shakers are a driven band that charms crowds with their crossroads of musical influences; from the grit of the blues to the groove of soul and R&B, following in the footsteps of greats such as Etta James, Marvin Gaye or Otis Redding.

The band’s chemistry is apparent on stage, as well as their passion for textural, honest and direct music that pleases the crowd as well as the artists on stage performing it. Their sound is eclectic and energetic, bridging the simplicity of blues with the sheer expressiveness of R&B, going for an engaging and direct twist.
